BT Broadband - how to get it mended?

I've been without BT Broadband access for over a week, and am getting absolutely nowhere with the BT Fault Department. I am trying to get through to BT Billing, but can't even get a response there. Does anyone have any suggestions, as to how to deal with this bureauocratic nightmare? This is just such a horror show experience. Even a phone number in the UK would be nice. And if I hear the words "the line test is inconclusive" again....
It is like something out of George Orwell, except that 1984 was a long time ago now.
RE: BT Broadband - how to get it mended?
Don't know if this will help or not, but when I was with another broadband Co, and having problems, I decided to ditch them, and told the person in the overseas call centre that I was leaving them. IMMEDIATELY I was put through to someone in the UK who could answer all my questions, offered to cut my subscription rate etc etc etc
By that point though I was through with them (and moved in fact to BT broadband, who have been fine, but that's no consolation to you  ),
but my own experience suggests that if you threaten to clear off, then suddenly they become very helpful and concerned, where previously they couldn't give a t*ss as long as you keep paying them each month.
Just a thought...
